Newsletter: Recognizing the International Day of Peace

On this 39th International Day of Peace we recognize the need to redouble our collective efforts towards building a peaceful future, where individuals can realize their full potential and communities can thrive, free of conflict. In the past year we have successfully piloted the Peace Renewable Energy Credit (P-REC) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), providing a new way to support renewable energy projects as a building block for peace. We are pleased to announce  that we have recently been authorized by the International REC Standard (I-REC) Foundation as the I-REC country issuer for South Sudan, the second country - after the DRC - from which we are able to issue P-RECs. South Sudan is the world's newest country and among the least electrified, and still struggling with a civil war that began in 2013. We believe that P-REC-supported renewable energy investment can make a difference in South Sudan and help the country to chart a more peaceful, stable course.
